When you look at a beautiful piece of jewelry you sometimes wonder what is the most expensive part of the piece. If you are looking at a ring with a huge stone in the middle you are always tempted to assume that the stone is the most expensive part of that ring but with the recent rise in popularity of Cubic Zirconia there is a really good chance that the beautiful ring you are looking at did not cost nearly as much as you thought it did but since you thought it was expensive it did its job.

Cubic Zirconia is a diamond like stone that for many years used to be cast as the undesirable alternative to diamonds. Most women would not be caught dead with a Cubic Zirconia stone and most men would be caught dead if they gave one to their lady. But over the years some very high profile jewelry enthusiasts have started to lend their name to Cubic Zirconia and with the help of precious metals and some very elaborate designs the Cubic Zirconia stone is gaining attention.

For example, Oprah Winfrey has lent her image to entire lines of Cubic Zirconia jewelry because it is beautiful jewelry that most people can afford. Many people would have a difficult time being able to afford a several thousand dollar diamond but they can easily afford a Cubic Zirconia at a fraction of the cost.

Many designers are teaming Cubic Zirconia up with precious metals like gold and silver and coming up with some very expensive, and beautiful, creations that give the illusion of diamonds but the price of Cubic Zirconia. They are also teaming Cubic Zirconia up with other precious gems and by putting Cubic Zirconia side by side with emeralds or rubies they are getting the effect of having a beautiful piece of jewelry at a very reasonable cost. There is even a feeling among many people that Cubic Zirconia is a perfectly acceptable substitute for diamonds and in some cases diamonds may not even be appropriate. If a piece of jewelry is headed to someplace that is high visibility or in a situation where it could get damaged then risking it with diamonds may be a very bad plan.

However there are times when diamonds are mandatory and Cubic Zirconia is not acceptable and most guys either should know, or already do know, these situations. The most obvious situation is an engagement ring and then the subsequent wedding rings that will be needed at the ceremony. The chances are very high that even suggesting Cubic Zirconia for these rings will bring about such a negative response that you would have wished you never brought it up in the first place. So just know that while Cubic Zirconia is a nice alternative some of the time but when it really comes down to the important stuff diamonds are forever.
